Flowers of Takai
Laine Pierce of Circatree started writing and recording minimalist emotional electronic tracks in 2006, these songs eventually developed into a solo project called Flowers of Takai. The word Takai is a Japanese word that has many meanings, one of which is death and the afterlife.
Flowers of Takai is an eclectic project based on the idea of infinity and life growing from death, thus cycling forever.
Pierce collaborates with a lot of musicians with many different styles, and continuously expands the sound of Flowers of Takai. Expect an amazing debut album later this year.
Perfect if You're a Fan of: The Smiths, Broken Spindles, The Postal Service, The Cure, Thom Yorke, Les Savy Fav

The David's
The David's is an eclectic project fronted by David Ostin Clegg. The songs are inspirational and witty and have a refreshing balance of humor and solid songwriting. The sound is as intriguing and unusual as Clegg's life story. He started his musical aspirations, while attending Princeton University, with the country reggae band The Barefoot Louies. He also performed in a bluegrass duo called Cornbread and Beans. After being expelled from Princeton for cheating on tests, he became one of the few remaining modern steel workers, and he started writing the songs that would eventually become the David's catalogue. Finally he settled down with his Russian wife and formed The David's in Asheville, NC.

C@B
Bone Trees and Skull Blossoms.
C@B is the acoustic based solo project of Cameron Babb (the icarus construct, aria in binary, bevelle apparatus).
Babb's approach to song writing is as intellectual as it is emotional, and very effective. The melodies will keep you guessing, the hooks will keep you listening, and the lyrics will keep you thinking.
'Beyond The Bone Orchard', the debut release, produces catchy melodies that reflect on the transitory nature of modern culture. The 12 tracks are inventive, and introspecitve, and the effect is subtly tragic.
Perfect if you're a fan of: Elliott Smith, The Talking Heads, Cursive, Death Cab for Cutie, Billy Bragg, Radiohead

Michael Burgin
DC's post-hardcore and indie meets Nashville's outlaw country.
Michael Burgin(the icarus construct) is a singer songwriter like you have never heard. Strong hooks and melody carry a highly politicized message and his bold experimental sound. Burgin's debut 'the gadfly' is not for the casual rock fan, at times its sound is a tasteful brand of country for the rebellious and disenfranchised, other times it's punk rock for the intellectual and politically motivated, and occasionally it's even nostalgic, introspective and reflective.

Circatree
In January 2006 Laine Pierce of Starlight Studios posted an ad searching for local Asheville musicians. Guitarist Andy Askew was one of the first to answer the ad which stated influences such as Kraftwerk, STS9, and Portishead. From the first notes played together there was a conversation developing. The two felt a common bond coming from the same love and feelings of life and music. Cd's were traded of past projects and favorite artists. With each conversation there was new idea of what this project could be. After auditioning a number of drummers Michael Lott made the band a reality. They felt that his sense of precision and his heartfelt soul was perfect for their musical vision. Within days, the band auditioned Mike McBride on keys. Mike's classical background and knowledge of modern programing completes what is now Circatree. Like the name, the band blends the analog of organic instruments and the digital of electronics. Circatree blends electronica, rock, experimental, house, hip-hop and downtempo styles in an eclectic way. It is the band's intention to bring people together through the power of music, and to promote awareness and vibrational healing which can happen when the intention is right...

IOSIA
IOSIA is the brainchild of Ryan 'Flux' Doody (the centerfolds, persons unknown, the icarus construct, bevelle apparatus). 'the god vacuum', IOSIA's debut, is a progressive post apocalyptic concept album. Doody does all of IOSIA's instrumentation and digital programming. Since the release of 'the god vacuum', Doody has expanded IOSIA's sound. Newer songs are more lyrically direct and rooted more in punk rock, while still maintaining Doody's signature vocal style, and prog and jazz influences.

Zoo Logic
Zoo Logic's sound is electonic based indie rock, fronted by Clinton Wetherill (persons unkown, icarus construct, bevelle apparatus)Wetherill's guitar style is mathy, and heavy. Serving as the perfect conduit for his punk rock voice, novel approach to lyrics, and lush electronics. The result is a world of sound so unique, it could only come from the mind of the Zoologist.

The Icarus Construct
In 2004 singer songwriter Michael Burgin (guitar and voice) started writing in a new direction for a record called 'stealing orchids'. He initially enlisted the help of high school friends Clinton Wetherill (lead guitar) and Dave Paschke (drums) to add a backing band, realizing that the result was turning into a completely new project, the band entropy was formed. They quickly recruited Ryan Doody on Bass, and Cameron Babb on keys, and started reworking Burgin's tunes and working on new ones. They completed 'Stealing Orchids' in 2005, and changed the bands name to The Icarus Construct, because of confusion with an Atlanta based funk group named Entropy. Icarus has been called the 'band that started 1under records', or 'the 1under Records flagship band' The band went on hiatus in 2007 when Paschke left. As for a reunion, nothing is planned, but maybe one day...

Bevelle Apparatus
Zane Gragg was always a friend of a lot of the members of the Asheville indie scene. He also played bass, and wrote songs. So when Gragg asked 1under records mainstay Clinton Wetherill to play drums it seemed like a natural progression. They quickly gained C@B's Cameron Babb on guitar and voice, and Ryan 'flux' Doody of IOSIA on Keys. From the beginning the goal of bevelle was more poppy and more dancy than most acts on 1under records. The early motivation of the bands development and the obvious chemistry of the members was suddenly halted for a temporary hiatus until Gragg finishes school at UNCG. Sadly the only recording to date is the track 'wintermute' on the compilation 'below and beyond the call of indie'. Perhaps a Christmas or Spring break reunion?
